Home Assistant Automation

The Fetch.ai Automation Agent connects your Home Assistant setup with Fetch.ai agents. It can monitor selected devices, provide energy-related suggestions, and let you interact with the agent through ASI:One chat.

Before you start

Make sure you have:

  • Home Assistant OS or Supervised running on amd64 or aarch64. Home Assistant Container and Core are not supported because the app requires the Home Assistant Supervisor. *An ASI:One API key. More information here.
  • An Agentverse API key for ASI:One chat. More information here.
  • The public repository link below.

Installation

1. Add the repository

In the Home Assistant:

  1. Open Settings → Apps and select Install app.
  2. Open the three-dot menu in the top-right corner and select Repositories.
  3. Paste the following repository link into the field, then select Add: https://github.com/fetchai/home-assistant-automation

2. Install the app

Find Fetch.ai Automation Agent in the app store and select Install. If it does not appear, open the three-dot menu and select Check for updates.

Note: The first build may take a few minutes.

3. Configure the agent

Open the app’s Configuration tab and enter the asi1_api_key and agentverse_api_key parameters.

Select Save when done.

4. Start the agent

Open the Info tab and enable Watchdog and Show in sidebar. Then select Start.

Once the agent is running, its address will be shown in the Log tab.

Pair ASI:One chat

To connect the agent to ASI:One chat:

  1. Open Fetch.ai Automation Agent from the Home Assistant sidebar.
  2. Open the Connections tab.
  3. Select Pair a device.
  4. Send the six-digit code to the agent’s address from ASI:One chat.

The code is valid for 10 minutes. Repeat the process for each household member who needs access.

Using the agent

Once connected to ASI:One, you can use natural language to interact with your Home Assistant setup. The agent can:

  • Look up rooms, devices, states, services, and automations without guessing.
  • Control supported devices such as lights, temperature, and volume. Sensitive actions require your approval.
  • Create, modify, explain, or delete automations, with changes shown before they are applied.
  • Answer questions about past events using available Home Assistant and agent records.
  • Undo changes after identifying the specific action and getting your confirmation.

Choose what the agent can watch

Open the Watching tab to select the devices the agent can watch and record.

For instance:

  • Smart plugs with power sensors can provide data for energy suggestions.
  • Lights, switches, and motion or occupancy sensors can provide further data for the analysis.

Chat is available as soon as the agent is running. Suggestions become available after enough data has been collected, which may take several weeks.

Updates

Updates appear in Home Assistant like any other app updates.
